10 Places that Lead to Hell 4
7. St. Patrick’s Purgatory
LOUGH DERG, IRELAND
Since October 25th 1632 the hole at the end of a rather narrow descending cave was sealed up. It has not yet been reopened but because of St. Patrick and the accounts of Pilgrims the site has been used by many seeking pilgrimage and healing. St. Patrick said that Jesus gave him dreams and visions of hell upon landing on Station Island. He was so traumatized that he called the place a purgatory. The types of pilgrimage there is considered quite tough being done in bare feet. Serious Christians go to prove some kind of devotion i guess–but–there has to be a better way.
8. Chinoike, Jigoku
BEPPU CITY, JAPAN
Seems as if the Japanese and Chinese win the medal for having the best gateways to hell, at least the ones worth a trip to the Orient to experience. And hey, if you happen to be there anyway at work or at play, why not take a ride over and see if it changes your life any? This horrifying place is located in Beppu, City in Japan. It has some awesome hot springs that have been talked about by Buddhists since 700 AD. They now even sell the mud as a skin cream and the springs flow different colors of the spectrum. There is one particular pool called Chinoike Jigoku translated as the “Bloody Hell Pond”. This, today can be seen as the iron oxide deposits at the bottom of the pond but of course anything red has to be classed as hell. The temp of this pool is at 78 degrees celsius which is pretty darn hot. It has a bad reputation for being a place to torture prisoners prior to the decision whether to boil them alive. Still wanna go? Sure you do, you never know, maybe, if you listen closely enough you can hear the former prisoners scream.
